3 hour hiker rescue conducted in midst of Tropical Storm Lala: Officials

HONOLULU (KHON2) — First responders are asking the public to avoid hiking as swollen streams and muddy trail conditions are in the forecast following Tropical Storm Lala.

The warning comes after a group of hikers decided to venture out on the Makaua Hidden Garden Trail in Kaaawa, the City and County of Honolulu said.

Officials said the incident happened on Sunday night, following a hurricane that impacted the state, when one of the hikers slipped and injured her ankle while attempting to cross a stream.
