Showers, storm chances increase before drier trades return midweek

HONOLULU (KHON2) — A weakening system of heavy rain and thunderstorms is moving toward Kauaʻi this morning, but it’s expected to break apart into lighter rain by sunrise.

Across the state, an upper-level disturbance will bring more showers today, especially on Maui and the Big Island slopes this afternoon. Conditions start to dry out tonight into Tuesday as more stable air moves in.

By midweek, trade winds return, bringing more typical weather—brief windward and mauka showers mainly overnight and early mornings. Boaters may see light winds and a few isolated thunderstorms northwest of the islands through tonight…
