Hawai‘i bucks national increasing trend for gas prices with decrease at pump during past week

A GasBuddy survey of 214 stations in Honolulu found average gasoline prices in and around the Hawai‘i capital decreased 6.7 cents per gallon during the past week, averaging $5.55 per gallon as of Monday, April 27.

Meanwhile, prices shortly after 8 a.m. Monday at Hilo and other Big Island gas pumps ranged from $5.19 per gallon on the low end to as much as $5.69 per gallon.

Honolulu prices are 31.6 cents per gallon more than a month ago and stand $1.15 per gallon more than a year ago.

Neighboring area current gas prices

  • Hawai‘i (Neighbor islands): $5.53 per gallon, down 10.6 cents per gallon from last week’s $5.64 per gallon.
  • Oakland, Calif.: $5.90 per gallon, up 7.2 cents per gallon from last week’s $5.82 per gallon.
  • San Francisco: $6.06 per gallon, up 11.2 cents per gallon from last week’s $5.95 per gallon.

GasBuddy price reports showed the cheapest station in Honolulu was priced at $4.68 per gallon Sunday, April 26, while the most expensive was $6.05 per gallon, a difference of $1.37 per gallon.
