Oahu hit hard with thunderstorms and showers

HONOLULU (KHON2) — What meteorologists refer to as an “upper low” hit Oahu Friday, causing sporadic showers and thunderstorms all day long.

“When we have an upper low over us like this one, it can really kind of create a forecasting challenge because what happens is you end up getting these very small-scale boundaries that form,” said Thomas Vaughn, National Weather Service meteorologist. “That is typically where we would see the heavier showers and the thunderstorms develop.”

From central areas including Pearl City and Mililani, windward Oahu, and even portions of downtown, which included a closure of Tantalus road, rain and thunderstorms hit hard…
