Houston man found guilty of illegal firearms sales and possession

HOUSTON, Texas — A 45-year-old Houston man has been convicted of illegal firearms sales and possession after a three-day trial, according to Acting U.S. Attorney John G.E. Marck.

U.S. District Judge Kenneth M. Hoyt delivered the guilty verdicts against Jonathan Chimney, who was found guilty of engaging in a firearms business without a license, two counts of being a felon in possession of a firearm, and failure to register a firearm. From February 10 through July 27, 2022, Chimney and James Price sold firearms to authorities during an undercover operation, according to a press release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

The court heard that Chimney and Price conducted eight firearms transactions, selling 66 firearms and 887 rounds of ammunition for approximately $41,000. During the final transaction, they accepted cash and two kilograms of methamphetamine, intending to sell the drugs for profit, the press release stated.
