A surprise live elephant guest for a Texas convention made an impact in a way it probably wasn’t supposed to. The animal relieved itself on the venue floor in front of a massive crowd of delegates, members of the press, and a barrage of cell-phone cameras. The video then took on a life of its own online, where all sorts of different interpretations popped up.

The incident happened at the George R. Brown Convention Center on June 12, 2024, during the 2026 Texas Republican Party Convention, and a short while after Gov. Greg Abbott finished his keynote speech.
Reports say an announcer told the room, which was full of spectators, to clear the aisles for a “larger than life surprise,” after which Abbott unveiled an elephant named Paige adorned in a patriotic headdress and a campaign banner…
