HOUSTON (CW39) – Houston Mayor John Whitmire is scheduled to join housing advocates, faith leaders and community organizations Wednesday to break ground on Trinity East Village Senior, a new affordable housing development designed to help older adults remain in Houston’s historic Third Ward as the neighborhood changes.
Organizers say the 90-unit community is aimed at residents 55 and older and will provide affordable homes along with onsite support services. The project also includes replacement housing for dozens of residents connected to the Cuney Homes redevelopment, making it part of a broader effort to reduce displacement while expanding affordable housing options in Houston. The groundbreaking is set for July 15 at the Eldorado Ballroom at Project Row Houses and brings together city leaders and nonprofit partners behind the long-planned development.

Why is this project significant?
Affordable housing has become one of Houston’s biggest challenges, especially in neighborhoods experiencing redevelopment. Trinity East Village Senior is intended to give longtime residents another option to stay in the community instead of relocating because of rising housing costs.
Organizers say the development is focused on helping seniors age in place while remaining connected to family, neighbors and community resources. The project also represents another milestone in ongoing efforts to reshape housing opportunities around Cuney Homes through the federal Choice Neighborhoods Initiative.
Who is involved in the groundbreaking?
Whitmire is expected to be joined by District D Council Member Dr. Carolyn Evans-Shabazz along with leaders from The NHP Foundation, Trinity East Village Community Development Corporation, Housing Alliance HTX and Houston’s Housing and Community Development Department…
