Heat alerts remain in place across the Houston area Friday ahead of a weekend that shows signs of being even hotter — but there’s a catch: A few storms may bring brief, spotty relief.
Friday’s temperatures will climb toward 100 degrees away from the coast, with even hotter conditions possible this weekend. Saturday and Sunday could bring highs near record territory. The wildcard is a small chance for showers and thunderstorms late Friday into Saturday, mainly north and northeast of Houston. Most neighborhoods will stay hot and dry, but a brief downpour could bring welcome, if temporary, relief.
Dangerous heat continues into Friday
Friday afternoon will set the stage for an even hotter weekend, with inland temperatures nearing 100 degrees and heat index values climbing well above that. Highs along the coast will be slightly lower, but feels-like temperatures will still exceed 108 degrees in both Galveston and Houston. If the heat index reaches 113 degrees, some locations could meet the threshold for an extreme heat warning.
The heat index won’t be the only measure of the outdoor heat risk…
