‘I don’t know how long we can do it’: Waller County wrecker service feeling the pain of $5 diesel

HOUSTON — Between failed peace talks and the US Navy blockading Iranian ports, oil prices are back up. The price of a barrel is above $100 again. And Houston driver’s using diesel fuel are especially filling the pinch with prices topping five dollars a gallon.

Fifty to $100 a week might be closer to what you’re paying at the pump. But some tow truck drivers say they are paying closer to $650 depending on the week. And passing the costs to customers just isn’t good business. But neither are these diesel prices.

Family-owned Crown Wrecker (Waller County Paint and Body) has been in business longer than Garrett Lauder has been alive. But he and his team are doing what’s necessary to keep it going one high priced gallon of diesel at a time…
