Houston’s starting to dry out, but here’s when storm chances will rise again

May got off to a soggy start across Southeast Texas, as widespread showers and storms moved over the Houston metro area on Friday. Officially, 3.59 inches of rain was measured at George Bush Intercontinental Airport, the second-highest rainfall total ever in Houston on May 1.

So far in 2026, Houston has already recorded 17.01 inches of rain, which is nearly 20% more rain than average through this point in the year.

However, after what was a dry and sunny Saturday, Houston will continue to dry out over the next few days, as high atmospheric pressure strengthens to the south. Rain chances will return, though, by the middle of the week and into next weekend. Here’s what you can expect.
