Appeals court judges weigh immunity for Houston officer in Harding Street raid killings

Nearly two years after a disgraced Houston Police Department officer was convicted of murder over the deaths of two people during the 2019 Harding Street raid, a panel of appeals court judges is considering whether a different officer, the one alleged to have fired the fatal shots, can be held civilly liable for the shooting.

Last week, a three-judge panel of the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals heard arguments over whether the officer, Felipe Gallegos, should be granted immunity from a lawsuit over the deaths of Rhogena Nicholas and Dennis Tuttle.
