Camp Mystic’s chief health officer, who fled from rising floodwaters without assisting most of the campers below, lost her nursing license earlier this week after state regulators cited several failures before, during and after the fatal flooding on July 4.
The Texas Board of Nursing suspended Mary Liz Eastland’s nursing license Tuesday and deemed her a “continuing and imminent threat to public welfare,” according to an order of temporary suspension. Eastland said she didn’t call 911 or send her nursing staff to save the girls who were sleeping in Camp Mystic’s cabins when the Guadalupe River flooded its banks and killed 27 campers and counselors. They were among more than 130 people who died statewide.
