Democratic lawmaker calls on Abbott to withdraw support for new FEMA recommendations

AUSTIN (Nexstar) — Nearly a year after Gov. Greg Abbott, R-Texas, was sworn in to President Donald Trump’s, R, Council to Assess the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), the council issued a 75-page report with recommendations for how FEMA should proceed. Now, State Rep. Jon Rosenthal, D-Houston, is formally requesting Abbott walk away from those recommendations.

“As a resident and Representative of Houston, I understand how vulnerable we are to natural disasters and how much we rely on federal assistance to recover,” Rosenthal said. “I hope Governor Abbott joins me in supporting this critical agency.”

In response, Abbott’s office pointed Nexstar to a release they sent out after the recommendations were finalized…
