‘Critically ill’ passenger removed from cruise ship in Long Beach

A “critically ill” passenger on a Carnival cruise ship sailing to Catalina Island was hospitalized after being transported to the shore by first responders in Long Beach on Tuesday.

Long Beach Fire said in a post on social media that at approximately 7 a.m., LBFD Marine Safety crews responded to assist the crew on the Carnival Firenze with the passenger near the Long Beach Sea Buoy.

Long Beach lifeguards and firefighters coordinated the transfer of the patient from the cruise ship and brought them to shore. The passenger was then transported to a local hospital.

Video and photos shared to social media show a lifeguard boat pulled up alongside the cruise ship and the patient being brought down a flight of stairs, which was hovering over the water…
