Nearly 500 animals seized from wildlife traffickers are now being cared for at the Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach, including endangered and near-threatened species.
The animals arrived at the aquarium on June 19 after wildlife officials discovered a box truck carrying more than 2,000 animals, including fish, aquatic invertebrates, reptiles and amphibians, according to the aquarium.
The Aquarium of the Pacific took in nearly 500 of the animals, including sensitive fish, sharks and aquatic invertebrates such as crabs and shrimp.
Staff members worked through the night to stabilize the animals and acclimate them to specialized, behind-the-scenes systems, where they are being closely monitored in quarantine…
