Rocket City Freedom Fest: Local Black businesses shine at Huntsville’s Juneteenth celebration

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — The Rocket City celebrated Juneteenth in style at Big Spring Park Friday afternoon, as small businesses, food trucks, vendors and kids’ activities filled part of the park for the Rocket City Freedom Fest.

James Swan, organizer of Black Restaurant Week, said the event gave local Black-owned businesses a platform to shine.

“It’s amazing because all of these companies are small businesses that are from Huntsville,” Swan said. “Again, this has been Black Restaurant Week all week, and this has given the opportunities for these small businesses that are here in this community, who just so happen to be Black, to be able to showcase their talents.”…
