This Month Matters: Huntsville nonprofit celebrates Americans with Disabilities Act anniversary, hosts fireside chat fundraiser

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WAFF) – July is Disability Pride Month, a time to recognize the achievements and contributions of people with disabilities and to mark the anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act, signed into law on July 26, 1990.

For this episode of This Month Matters, digital host Tatyana White sat down with Davina Patterson, Executive Director of Disability Resource Network, to discuss the significance of the month, the work her organization does across North Alabama, and its upcoming annual fundraiser, “Reflections: A Fireside Chat.”

Why July matters for the disability community

Patterson said Disability Pride Month is observed in July because the month marks the anniversary of the ADA’s signing.
