Redstone deals with Army’s guard force constraints

After days of congestion and growing frustration among commuters, Redstone Arsenal has reopened Gate 3 during the morning rush, providing relief for thousands of employees while highlighting the continuing challenge of staffing one of the Army’s busiest security forces.

Beginning Friday, Gate 3 on Redstone Road resumed operations from 6 to 9 a.m. Monday through Friday for both inbound and outbound traffic after the Garrison shifted personnel from another access point to temporarily staff the gate.

The move comes as the installation continues an aggressive hiring campaign to replenish its Department of the Army Security Guard workforce, which has struggled to keep pace with staffing shortages while processing between 40,000 and 50,000 vehicles entering the installation each workday…
