News 19’s Ben Smith takes his eagle photography to British Columbia

CAMPBELL RIVER, British Columbia (WHNT) — News 19 meteorologist Ben Smith’s love and talent for photography is no secret. His award-winning pictures have been a highlight in the Tennessee Valley. And he has a particular love of capturing wildlife, especially eagles.

He’s been showcasing the beauty of bald eagles in north Alabama for a few years now. But this time, his passion took him more than 2,000 miles from home. Smith went to Campbell River, British Columbia, on Canada’s west coast. That’s where hundreds of bald eagles gather each year. And Smith was determined to photograph them in their natural habitat.

And find them he did. The region had hundreds of bald eagles. They were everywhere from the trees to light poles to the water, where fish were plentiful…
