HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WAFF) – Local farmers say more customers have been asking for fresh produce, particularly lettuce and other leafy greens, following cases of cyclospora in North Alabama.
Rhett Boyd, a farmer who sells produce at the Bailey Cove Farmers Market in Huntsville, said demand has increased but the summer heat makes lettuce difficult to grow.
“Normally in our markets in July, people know there’s not going to be lettuce in North Alabama. It’s 95 degrees, feels like 110 all the time. But I mean, this year has been weird because we’ve had multiple people, probably 10 to 15 every market, coming up, ‘Hey, do you have lettuce? Can we get lettuce? Do you have any I can buy?’,” Boyd said…
