HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WAFF) – Temple B’nai Sholom, the oldest synagogue in continuous use in Alabama, is marking 150 years of Jewish life in Huntsville this weekend with a series of celebratory events.
Founded in 1876, the congregation has served as the center of the Jewish community in the Rocket City through periods of growth, challenge, and transformation tied closely to Huntsville’s own rise.
A family legacy spanning more than a century
Sol Miller, a lifetime member of Temple B’nai Sholom, said his family’s connection to the congregation stretches back 110 years.
“My family first came to Huntsville around 1916,” Miller said. “And from that time on, my family has been associated with this congregation. It’s been the place where all of our life cycle events have been celebrated — and this includes marriages, bar mitzvahs, funerals.”…
