Richard L. Blanton, Jr. wears his blue uniform proudly in North Alabama, donning it to help educate adults and children about the Civil War. Though, he often gets some strange looks and comments.
“The first thing we usually get is aren’t you a little far South to be a Union group,” said Blanton, an officer in the Richard Taylor Camp 53 Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War.
You might think so, since most of the Alabama soldiers fighting in the Civil War wore Confederate gray, but not everyone. The issue of secession was not a popular one…
