HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WAFF) – City leaders are considering changes to housing, office spaces and retail in three areas along University Drive — Northwoods, the area near the University of Alabama in Huntsville and MidCity — as part of a broader effort to make the corridor safer, more walkable and better prepared for public transit.
City planner James Vandiver said officials have spent more than a year studying University Drive, with a focus on pedestrian safety following multiple accidents, some of them deadly, involving pedestrians on the road. Just Monday, a wreck happened near the intersection of University Drive and Putnam Drive shortly after 5:30 a.m. which killed a pedestrian.
