HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WAFF) – Families from across North Alabama gathered Sunday at the Richard Showers Center to honor children lost to gun violence, sharing a meal and fellowship with others who understand their loss.
The event was organized by Donna Howell, who said she founded the gathering after losing her own son at age 16. Howell said providing a space where grieving parents feel safe and seen is central to the event’s mission.
‘Grief is like a sea’
One attendee, whose son’s murder has never resulted in charges, spoke about the ongoing weight of loss.
“I’m still angry. Like I said grief is like a sea. You can drown or you can swim but you’re always going to get those waves hitting you. That anger and that frustration and some of us haven’t had justice done yet. My son’s murder has never been charged,” she said…
