Alabama’s economy is growing, but these numbers reveal which cities are being left behind

Huntsville’s population keeps booming, and its economy is keeping up.

The Huntsville metro area, the second largest in the state, added about 27,600 jobs between 2022 and 2025 – more than any other metro in Alabama – and workers there still see the highest average wages in the state.

Huntsville beat out the much larger Birmingham metro area, which added nearly 19,500 new jobs. Huntsville’s job growth rate of 11.5% was second in the state, trailing only Auburn-Opelika’s 18.6%…
