Huntsville’s growth boom intensifies childcare shortage

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WAFF) – Huntsville is in the middle of a major growth boom, and families say the need for childcare is becoming more difficult to meet.

U.S. Space Command is moving about 1,400 jobs to Redstone Arsenal. The FBI is expanding its presence, with thousands more employees expected. Eli Lilly is investing more than $6 billion in a new manufacturing facility, bringing 450 jobs. Childcare was a factor in the Air Force’s evaluation of Huntsville when considering the relocation of U.S. Space Command headquarters.
