Huntsville Animal Services at critical capacity for dogs, over capacity for cats

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) — Huntsville Animal Services is looking for people looking to add a furry friend to the family, as it has reached capacity for animals.

In a post on social media, the shelter announced that it has reached critical capacity. A follow-up livestream said that the shelter is at level four capacity for dogs and level three for cats.

HAS defines level four capacity as being “in a critical overcrowding situation” and is the level where the shelter says it may have to euthanize animals to make space. According to the shelter, level three capacity means they are over capacity but are adjusting space to deal with it.

The shelter said that there hasn’t been any one event that’s led to them being at such high capacity, but they simply have gotten a lot of stray animals in lately, along with having several animals looking for homes…
