Wrong-way driver causes chaos on I-565; person responsible still at large

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — Police are looking for the driver of a car that traveled from Huntsville to Madison going the wrong way on I-565 on Thursday, causing several wrecks before apparently leaving the highway and disappearing.

The initial calls to 911 came in around 10 a.m., with eyewitnesses reporting a silver Nissan Versa headed west in the eastbound lanes of the interstate, near the Bob Wallace exit. Huntsville police responded, as additional eyewitness reports relayed information about vehicles being struck in the chaos.

Officers traced the car — which may have been driven by an older woman — to Madison, where it is believed to have left the interstate somewhere near Toyota Field…
