HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) — Outdoor enthusiasts in Huntsville now have a brand new trail to explore!
On Monday, the Land Trust of North Alabama, the City of Huntsville, and representatives from Monte Sano State Park got together to “cut the stick” on a new paved greenway.
The Toll Gate Greenway is a 1.2-mile paved multi-use pathway that starts at the Land Trust Bankhead Trailhead parking lot on Bankhead Parkway. It weaves through a tree-lined canopy up the mountain and ends at the base of the closed section of the old Bankhead Parkway at the hairpin turn.
Users can then use a new crosswalk to continue on and connect with Monte Sano State Park.
The paved trail is perfect for bikers, hikes, walkers, and even people with strollers or slight mobility issues. The Land Trust of North Alabama says it is a steep trail, however, the pavement provides a much easier experience than traversing a natural trail with leaves and branches…
