This north Alabama city has little room to grow. Yet it’s adding more than 11 people per day

In 2011, the city of Madison found itself surrounded. Neighboring Huntsville, in its quest to annex much of north Alabama, had claimed land on all sides of the suburban city, effectively cutting Madison off from geographic expansion.

Still, Madison continues to find a way.

No Alabama city added more total people in 2025 than Madison. Not Huntsville. Not booming cities in Limestone or Baldwin counties, the fastest growing counties in Alabama. Not Auburn or Tuscaloosa…
