Judge dismisses murder charges against Christopher Saam in July 2024 shooting under ‘Stand Your Ground’ law

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — A Madison County circuit judge dismissed murder charges today against Christopher Saam in connection with the July 2024 shooting death of 18-year-old Brian Wiggins Jr., court records show.

Judge Donna S. Pate granted Saam’s Stand Your Ground motion and dismissed the case with prejudice, meaning he cannot be recharged. The judge also granted Saam Youthful Offender status. The order was filed by agreement of both parties.

Saam, who was 18 at the time of his arrest, was charged with murder in the shooting that took place late July 3, 2024, in the area of Miller Boulevard, just north of Old Madison Pike in Madison.
