INDIANAPOLIS — An Indianapolis mother whose 2-year-old son died after she pushed him down the stairs will now spend decades in prison.
Shaylonda Duncan, 36, was sentenced last week to 47 years in the Indiana Department of Correction. This comes after the mother was found guilty earlier this year of aggravated battery resulting in death, battery on a juvenile and neglect of a dependent.
Duncan was originally charged in 2023 after an investigation into the death of her 2-year-old son at the bottom of a 15-step wooden staircase revealed potential neglect. Police later determined that Duncan’s surviving children had also suffered physical abuse.
