LAFOLLETTE, Tenn. (WATE) — A man wanted on a charge of attempted first-degree murder after a woman’s throat was slashed with a knife in LaFollette in December 2024 was arrested by the U.S. Marshals Service in Indianapolis, Indiana, on Monday.
According to the U.S. Marshals Service, Alejandro Mancera Canchola is facing one count of attempted first-degree murder connected to the incident in LaFollette. He is also wanted by Mexican authorities for the murder of his ex-wife.

The agency explained Tuesday that on December 17, 2024, Alejandro Mancera Canchola went to the home of his girlfriend, with whom he had a baby, on South Avenue in LaFollette. There, he then reportedly tried to kill his girlfriend by slashing her throat from ear to ear. The Marshals said that when he was slashing the victim’s throat, the blade broke, and he told the victim, as he retrieved a second blade to finish cutting her throat, that he killed his first wife and buried her body in the back yard of their home in Mexico.
While Canchola was allegedly grabbing the second knife, the victim convinced him to take their child to a neighbor. As he did that, the victim was able to stuff a towel in her throat and crawl to the street, where a passerby spotted her and took her for medical assistance.
