INDIANAPOLIS (TCN) — A 21-year-old man has been charged with murder in connection with a fatal shooting that allegedly stemmed from an argument over the cost of a flat tire repair.
According to unsealed court documents obtained by WXIN, a group of people driving hit a pothole on May 5 and pulled into a gas station to get help with their car. Izaak Garcia reportedly said he would change their flat tire for $10. He later changed his mind and said he was going to charge the group $30 instead.
This reportedly led to an argument and gunshots were fired. According to a witness, Darious Averitte was angry about the change in cost and allegedly fired the first shots. Garcia then allegedly fired back at Averitte as he fell to the ground. Garcia was pronounced dead at the hospital, per WXIN. Averitte then got into the group’s car and was driven off.
