Indy woman allegedly stole $95,000 in dead husband’s disability benefits

INDIANAPOLIS — A warrant has been issued for an Indianapolis woman accused of stealing over $95,000 in disability benefits after failing to tell officials that her husband died in 2021.

Nikki Dayton, 57, was officially charged Thursday in Marion County court with theft as a Level 5 felony. A warrant has since been issued for her arrest. She has not been booked into jail as of this article’s publication.

The Social Security Administration began investigating Dayton in January 2025 after a tip claimed her husband had died in March 2021. Despite this, she had allegedly been receiving $2,466 a month in Disability Insurance Benefits…
