Indianapolis Shortridge High School parents and students react to state’s classroom cellphone ban
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — As Indiana schools begin their first academic year with a statewide classroom cellphone ban, Indianapolis parents and students are offering their opinions on the new law.
“I think overall it will definitely improve our academic outcomes,” said Shortridge High School’s new principal, Eric Sinclair. “When you have any new change, obviously there’s difficulties. At the same time, kids tend to rise to your expectations most of the time.”
The law went into effect on July 1st. It requires that any personal electronic devices brought to school be stored in a secure location throughout the school day. The devices can’t be used during school hours, including at lunchtime and in between classes. If a student is found with a device, staff will confiscate it.
