A 49-year-old man named Rudy Neil Minton is facing one count of murder in relation to the death of his landlord, Jerrell McCullough. McCullough’s body was found in a trash can in Minton’s rented house “amid eviction proceedings,” per The Republic. A probable cause affidavit has revealed that the suspect made several comments to law enforcement officers, including that “he just thought he could pull it off and he is sorry.”
When authorities were transporting Minton to Bartholomew County Jail, he mentioned that “sometimes not despicable people do despicable things.”
The suspect’s friend alerted authorities about the suspect’s landlord
Investigation into McCullough’s death began after a woman, who identified as Minton’s friend, called 911, expressing concerns that the 59-year-old might have done “something” to his landlord. The affidavit states that the woman wanted authorities to check up on the 89-year-old victim. Not long after, McCullough’s son also contacted 911, seeking help tracing his missing father, per The Republic.
As authorities arrived at the scene, the victim’s son allegedly told the police that he had been unable to establish contact with his father and had found McCullough’s vehicle parked outside the residence on Pearl Street. Reportedly, the man also told cops that the tenant or Minton, had not let him inside the house to check on his father.
Minton told officers he had allegedly drunk bleach
During the investigation, officers made contact with the suspect, who allegedly told them he had drunk bleach. When investigators brought up the missing landlord, the 49-year-old told them he was “in a trash can” inside the residence.
