NORTHWEST INDIANA — Power is still being restored to thousands of Northwest Indiana residents after a series of deadly severe storms slammed the area last week, causing what NIPSCO said has been the “largest and most widespread outage event on record.”
As of 7 a.m. Sunday, NIPSCO says about 186,000 customers have had their power restored, while about 135,000 remain without power. At the peak of the outage, NIPSCO said more than 60% of its customers were without power, “making this one of the largest outage events in company history.”
NIPSO said the number of total outages reported during three severe weather events covering four days last week was approximately 321,000. The majority of those reported outages, about 301,000, came after Tuesday’s devastating storms.
