A man is dead after Indianapolis police found him inside a Chevrolet Trax that had crashed into a building on the 200 block of S. LaSalle Street, suffering from injuries consistent with a gunshot wound. He died shortly afterward, while police pursued a separate lead just miles away involving a second shooting victim and a person of interest detained near a McDonald’s on Southeastern Avenue.
According to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, officers were originally dispatched to the 200 block of S. LaSalle Street for what was reported as a no-information accident, only to find the man inside the crashed SUV with gunshot wounds, as reported by Fox 59. He was transported to a hospital, where he died. Roughly 15 minutes before that fatal shooting was discovered, a separate shooting victim had arrived at Community Heart and Vascular Hospital on N. Shadeland Avenue, prompting police to investigate whether the two cases were connected. That hospital operates a 24/7 dedicated emergency department affiliated with Community Hospital East, according to Community Health Network.
IMPD ultimately determined the two victims were not linked, describing the LaSalle Street shooting as an isolated incident. The walk-in victim at the Shadeland Avenue hospital was reported to be in stable condition, and police said there is no longer a threat to the community. Person of Interest Detained Near Southeastern Avenue
While detectives worked the LaSalle Street scene, IMPD took a person of interest into custody in the 3000 block of Southeastern Avenue near English Avenue, close to a McDonald’s.
