White River Crests in the North, Still Rising in the Southwest
The White River has crested for Indianapolis and points north, according to the latest river gauge data from the Indiana Weather Network. However, farther southwest, the river is still rising as floodwaters continue moving south through the state.
Numerous river gauges across Indiana remain in action, minor, and moderate flood stages, based on data current as of 6 a.m. EDT Monday. The greatest concentration of elevated and moderate flood readings is centered across south-central Indiana, as the crest continues tracking southward.
Spencer Sees Rising Water Toward Moderate Flood Stage
The White River at Spencer, Indiana, was measured at 15.08 feet Monday, placing it at minor flood stage. According to the official forecast, the river there is expected to continue rising well into moderate flood stage, reaching 21.50 feet by midnight tonight.
For reference, minor flood stage at this location begins at 14 feet, while moderate flood stage begins at 20 feet. The river’s record crest stands at 28.5 feet, meaning current forecast levels remain well below historic highs.
