INDIANAPOLIS — An Indy man will serve over 60 years behind bars for shooting and killing another man on Christmas Day two years ago on the city’s northeast side.
The Marion County Prosecutor’s Office announced that Derek McKenzie has been sentenced to 65 years in the Indiana Department of Correction. The verdict follows a trial held last month that concluded with McKenzie being convicted of murder, unlawful possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon and a felony firearm sentencing enhancement.
According to previous reports, officers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department were dispatched to a residence in the 4400 block of Kitley Avenue in response to a reported shooting.
Police arrived on the scene and found Cedric Crews suffering from a gunshot wound. He later died at an area hospital after being transported there in critical condition. He was 44 years of age…
