Indiana’s 92 Counties Ranked by Number of Flock Cameras
Flock cameras have become one of the more polarizing pieces of technology showing up on Indiana streets, and a new data project from Eyes Off Indiana is putting real numbers behind the conversation. The nonprofit has mapped 2,792 automated license plate reader cameras across all 92 Indiana counties, with at least 2,501 of those confirmed as Flock Safety units, and the site says that count is a floor, not a full census, meaning the real number could be higher.
Marion County leads the state by a wide margin, both in raw camera count at 478 and in density at 121 cameras per 100 square miles. But the highest per-capita rate in Indiana actually belongs to Blackford County, which sits at 11.0 cameras per 10,000 residents despite ranking just 47th overall.
On the other end, nine counties show zero documented cameras. There’s no statewide law in Indiana governing how long that location data can be kept, who can search it, or how it’s audited, which is where the debate really heats up…
