Woman Who Let Her Father, Brother Live in Squalor to ‘Teach Them a Lesson’ Charged After One Died

A woman in Indiana is facing serious charges after allegedly allowing her father and disabled brother to live in squalor to “teach them a lesson” about their hygiene — and her brother ultimately died.

Kathryn Ann Payton was arrested in May, and she now faces new charges, including two counts of neglect of a dependent after police discovered her father and brother living in terrible conditions while she lived elsewhere at a property her father owned.

According to a probable cause affidavit viewed by Law&Crime, police were alerted after a pest control company discovered the two men in distress while doing a routine check of the property. Police did a welfare check and described conditions that induced nausea among them…
