‘I bought a fake badge online’ | 69-year-old Carmel man accused of using fake sheriff’s badge to enter Indianapolis Motor Speedway

SPEEDWAY, Ind. — A Carmel man is behind bars for allegedly impersonating a sheriff’s deputy in order to enter the Indianapolis Motor Speedway during Indy 500 qualifications.

According to court documents, on Sunday, May 17, an officer with the Speedway Police Department was working off-duty as a security guard for the Indianapolis Motor Speedway when he was informed by IMS’ senior director of safety and security that a man driving a black Chevrolet Silverado had just driven through gate 9A without properly identifying themselves.

Gate 9A is located north of the intersection of Georgetown Road and 25th Street outside the northwest portion of the track. It is also only used for deliveries and IMS employees…
