Choose Your Favorite Room in This Wilshire Heights Home

Every home should have at least one spot that becomes your favorite place. Whether it’s a perfect view, or the place where you put your treasured things, or the best place to relax, everyone has their own special place. The home at 6117 Martel Avenue is a collection of special places that will easily become a treasured space for any homeowner. That’s why this Wilshire Heights home is our Highlight Home of the Week, sponsored by Lisa Peters, Senior Financial Officer with First Horizon.

The special spaces start before you even walk in the front door, with this charming front patio. “Front patios really became popular during Covid with people spending more time in the yard, and this one is really special,” said listing agent Sam Claussen with Compass. There’s plenty of space for a nice patio set to extend entertaining space to the front, or just for enjoying watching the neighborhood go by.

Claussen, who also lives in Wilshire Heights, said the neighborhood offers the best of both worlds: easy access to White Rock Lake and Greenville.

“It’s a great central location with friendly neighbors,” Claussen said.

The cozy living area perfectly captures a home that has been expertly updated while preserving architectural details of its 1938 build. The brick fireplace is a centerpiece for another special space to create a homey spot for family and guests to gather. And that archway!

This deep archway opening with shelving that leads to the dining room — can we place a chaise lounge in here and stay awhile? I love this space.

But if we stay too long in the archway, we’d miss the dining room, and that would be a shame. The deep plum of the walls was an excellent choice to add drama and elegance to this lovely space. The color brings out the moulding beautifully and the perfect light fixture creates the mood for memorable meals for family and guests.

The kitchen was recently upgraded with new floors, countertops, backsplash, wallpaper, fixtures, and hardware. The result — every surface sparkles.

This breakfast nook is another special spot made for making memories. From early morning coffee to helping with homework, or settling in with a book and a cup of tea, it’s easy to picture life being lived here.

The primary suite is a true retreat where you can spread out and relax. With gorgeous hardwoods and large windows with natural light, the suite also includes generous closets (two!) and an ensuite bath designed with dual sinks, walk-in shower, and separate soaking tub…
