Defendants in Jackson bribery case face deadline

JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – The deadline for the defendants in the Jackson bribery scandal to tell the federal court if they will plead guilty was May 29, 2026.

Former Jackson Mayor Chokwe A. Lumumba, Hinds County District Attorney Jody Owens and former Councilman Aaron Banks are one step closer to going to trial this summer. They face 17 federal charges linked to alleged soliciting and accepting bribes from undercover FBI agents.
