JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – Several communities in Central Mississippi are under new administrations. One of the challenges they’re facing is how to tackle crime.
As of July 8, 2026, the Jackson Police Department (JPD) has investigating 42 homicides in 2026. While some Jackson residents are critical of leaders for not taking accountability when it comes to crime, others called out the community.
“We can start using social media more for positive things instead of, you know, talking about people, putting them down. Let’s get on social media more and talk about, hey, you know, I want to do this for the community. I want to do that for the community. And we can come together,” said Keisha Simmons, a Jackson resident.
