Area artists land Jackson Film Festival selection

The JXN Film Festival has selected for screening “Never the Same,” the latest music video collaboration from Jayess artists Cole Powell and Kyle Graves.

Directed by Powell and filmed by Graves, the project was shot in Jayess and showcases what Powell dubs Southwest Mississippi’s “Lush Land of the Fields and Trees.” Previously nominated for Music Video of the Year by the International Singer/Songwriters Association, the video serves as the follow-up to “Outlived My Life,” the duo’s first award-nominated visual collaboration from Powell’s top 20 iTunes-charting album, The Social Distance.

“When I was in high school, I had planned to become a writer-director, but practicality dictated I pursue other endeavors,” Powell said. “I’m reminded of the great Jerry Clower joking that he had ‘backed into show business.’ I feel like now I’ve kind of ‘backed into the film business.’ I consider this the greatest professional honor I’ve received.”…
