Mayes Street Bridge opening and repairs stalled, frustrating weary motorists

JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) – Mayes Street Bridge near West Street remains closed, inconveniencing hundreds of motorists waiting for repairs to the 57-year-old structure. Efforts to reopen one lane are on hold, and residents want to know when work will start.

It’s been eight months since the Mayes Street Bridge closed. Plans to stabilize and reopen it hit a snag. Meanwhile, drivers continue to travel farther.
