MADISON, Miss. — A 4-year-old Smith County boy who wants to meet 1,000 police officers spent a day on the force with Madison Police on Friday, as departments from across the country continue to reach out to help him reach his goal.
Slater Bynum, who wants to become a police officer when he grows up, was made a junior officer for the day by the Madison Police Department. Lt. Micah Taylor presented him with a hat and a shirt upon arrival.
“You can be an officer for the day,” Lt. Taylor said. “Look here, we got you a shirt that says junior officer, this is all real badges as you can see. Look whose name it has on the back? But you got to put all this stuff on so you can be an officer for the day and go jump on all that equipment.”
